SURF DOG HALL OF FAME

Louies Certificate    On September 13th, 2015, Louie was inducted to the surf dog Hall of Fame! It was a wonderful day and honor but also a very sad one. We accepted the award for Louie and of course wished with all our hearts Louie could have been there. Helen Woodward Foundation hosted the ceremony and gave us the award. They said so many pawsome things about Louie. We are so grateful for all the love that they bestowed on us.

Our daughter Tara, who is an artist, drew a picture of Louie with angel wings and surfing in Heaven. Gino, our other rescue dog, surfed that day in the medium dog contest and he ended up surfing great. He just went out there on the waves intending to surf in Louie’s honor and he surprised us all by taking all the waves right to shore. Leo, our tiny rescue dog, was our cheerleader all day. It was a great family day plus many friends came to the beach to see Louie being honored. I know Louie was looking down from above and barking!

We would liIMG_6575ke to thank family, friends, and all of Louie’s fans for all the love they shared with Louie. As you all know, Louie was beyond pawsome and will remain in our hearts and memories forever. A special thanks to Dale Porter, who made sure of that with all the love he put into Louie’s pictures, videos, and the making of this web site. Dale is also beyond pawsome!

IMG_5770 (1)IMG_5771 (1)FOR THE PAST COUPLE OF YEARS, LOUIE HAS ALWAYS SHARED HIS THOUGHTS BLOGGING ON THIS SITE.  IT WAS EITHER ABOUT SURFING OR HIS YAPPY BROTHERS OR HIS SISTER, TARA, WHO HE WAS IN CONSTANT COMPETITION WITH OR FRIENDS THAT TOUCHED HIS HEART. TODAY, ITS WITH GREAT SADNESS THAT I’M BLOGGING ABOUT LOUIE. LOUIE WAS THE MOST AMAZING DOG I HAVE EVER MET. SINCE THE DAY I WAS BORN, I ALWAYS HAD A DOG. I LOVED THEM ALL AND THEY WERE ALL SPECIAL. LOUIE THOUGH WAS DIFFERENT. I RESCUED LOUIE FROM A BAD SITUATION. HE WAS VERY ILL WHEN I GOT HIM. IT TOOK A LONG TIME BUT HE WAS FINALLY GETTING BETTER. I HIRED A TRAINER TO BUILD UP HIS MUSCLES, WE WENT TO THE VET’S OFFICE WEEKLY, HE WENT TO DAYCARE THREE TIMES A WEEK, AND EVERY DAY HE HAD TO SOAK IN A TUB OF OATMEAL BATH FOR HIS SKIN PROBLEMS. HE TOOK EVERYTHING IN STRIDE AND WAS ALWAYS HAPPY. ONE DAY, I READ ABOUT DOG SURFING IN SAN DIEGO. I KNEW IN MY HEART THIS WOULD BE THE BEST THING FOR LOUIE. WE LEFT NEW JERSEY AND DROVE TO CALIFORNIA. I SIGNED LOUIE UP FOR A SURF LESSON AND HE TOOK TO IT LIKE HE WAS SURFING HIS WHOLE LIFE. HE LOVED IT AND CRIED EVERY TIME HE HAD TO LEAVE THE BEACH. HIS SKIN CLEARED UP AND HE DIDN’T NEED THE BATHS ANYMORE OR THE ANTIBIOTICS. LOUIE WAS HAPPY EVERY DAY GOING TO THE BEACH AND PLAYING IN THE WATER. HE WON SURF CONTESTS, WAS ON NATIONAL TELEVISION A COUPLE OF TIMES, IN NEWSPAPERS, MAGAZINES NOT ONLY ALL OVER THE COUNTRY BUT ALSO IN EUROPE. HE HAD ADORING FANS. HE WAS IN THE RIPLEY BELIEVE IT OR NOT MUSEUM IN BALBOA PARK FOR THE VIDEO HE DID FOR THEM, SURFING BEHIND A WOODEN FERRARI CAR BOAT ON MISSION BAY. LAST YEAR HE WAS ON TWO BILLBOARDS IN SAN DIEGO. HE DID ALL HIS SURFING AND PROMOTIONS ALWAYS IN A HAPPY MOOD AND WITH SUCH LOVE. WE WERE BLESSED TO HAVE LOUIE IN OUR LIVES AND HE WILL LIVE FOREVER IN OUR HEARTS. THE OUTPOURING OF LOVE HAS BEEN TREMENDOUS FOR WHEN HE PASSED ONTO RAINBOW BRIDGE. HE WAS BEYOND SPECIAL. HE CERTAINLY RESCUED US AND GAVE US OCEANS OF LOVE! COWABUNGA DUDE! LOVE YOU LOUIE ALWAYS AND FOREVER.

JUNE GLOOM

Louie and a crowd  The picture of me in the middle about sums up the month of June. It was cloudy all month which San Diego people call June Gloom. So not only does Mondays and rainy days get me down, I now have the whole month of June! For starters, Mom has now starting teaching dog surfing this month.

She volunteers for Helen Woodward Animal Center and runs off on Saturdays mornings to teach three classes of dog surfing. I mean look at that first picture of me coming to the shore and the crowd shouting my name and going wild. Do I really need all those new dogs coming into the competitions? Not to mention my own mother teaching them! Plus, she comes home from class and she is so happy and goes on and on how great the dogs were, blah blah blah. She totally doesn’t see that it upsets me. Speaking of being upset, this month my parents are still insisting on taking Gino, mLeo1y little brother, surfing. Every Sunday we go to Del Mar dog beach and Gino gets on my board, that’s right you heard me right, my board! Believe it or not, he even caught a few good waves. Last week he took the crest of the wave but I’m sure it was accidental. Speaking of accidents, my parents better not ask me to babysit him anytime soon! The last picture is of my older brother, Leo. His birthday was June 30th and he was 12. My mom loves dressing him up in all kinds of outfits. Her friend, Linda, loves to send Leo all these cute outfits and mom goes crazy dressing him up. I really can’t complain about him though, he is really a good brother. He loves to curl up next to me at night on my bed. He also would never even try to surf on my board like that devil Gino. For his birthday we all went out for pizza and Leo was perfectly happy sharing his slice with me. Happy Birthday, bro, I love you! Let’s hope July brings the sun and that Gino gets off my board! I am King of the Waves!Louie 1

MONTH OF MAY

Tara 2Louie 2Joanne 2                     The month of May was pawsome! I started surfing again on Sundays at Del Mar dog beach. Every Sunday we get to the beach around 9. Before I surf, I play with dad with my super cool toy that floats in the water. Then dad takes my board and he tries to catch a couple of waves. I try and give him a look that shows I’m impressed  but everyone on the beach knows I blow him away. When I can’t take it anymore I go in the water and start barking. Mom then comes over and waves dad into shore and tells him it’s my turn. Once I’m out there ripping and gripping, I’m a happy happy dog! There is a dark spot on these beach visits though. Before we leave, dad lets my little annoying brother, Gino, get on the board and surf. He looks totally stupid. One week he actually took a wave in and everyone was cheering for him. I can’t tell you how it ruined my whole day, especially when the talk turned to entering him in the contest. I’m not going to think about it because it makes me seriously ill! Also in May, it was my sister, Tara’s birthday! Even though we fight like brothers and sisters do, I love her so much! She is an amazing young woman and I’m proud that I’m her brother even though she uses me in some of her jokes when she is on stage doing her comedy act. That’s okay, because when she comes to visit, I sit next to my four trophies that I have won surfing and grin from ear to ear! The Make A Wish Amazing Race was in May and my mom bikes in it every year. She raised a ton of money this year thanks to her amazing generous friends at the Marina where we have our boat. Way to go Mom! Except for the Gino surfing, May was Pawsome!

APRIL

photo (16)photo (19)photo (15)photo (18) The month of April came and went so fast! There were no beach outings as you can see in these pictures. I do have to be grateful though that mom didn’t dress me up as a bunny for Easter. I did put my paw down and I didn’t have to don the bunny ears and cotton tail. If you look at the picture of mom and Tara laughing though, that was on Easter and they went Paddle Boarding without me. Didn’t even ask if I wanted to go. Even though it’s totally not my sport, I would have liked to have had an invitation. The black and white picture of me was I guess on one of those rainy days and Mondays get me down times. It also felt like since there was no surfing that month that I slept through the thirty days of April. I would like to give a shout out to two special people that had their birthdays in April. My uncle Mike who lives in Oregon, love you man, happy birthday, and Gladys who lives in Queens, New York and has been friends with my mom for 37 years. When we lived in New Jersey she would come and visit me. She is one special lady. She turned 75 and looks fabulous! Happy birthday girlfriend! Also the last picture, I had to rummage through the boat and find my king hat to remind my family that the whole month of April went by and I didn’t surf. I’m the King of the Waves for crying out loud. I know how to instill guilt into them. We didn’t surf but We went out for pizza and I got more treats than my brothers. All I’m saying though is that come May I better be back on the waves! Cowabunga dudes!

That’s my Auntie Vicky sitting next to me and petting me. My mom is in the background. She lives in Newport Beach and has a great house with a yard. Since I live on a boat and don’t have a yard, this is heaven for me to run around on the grass. As you notice in the next picture I’m playing with a football. Auntie Vicky thought of everything when she invited us over. There were balls and we played a game of monkey in the middle. I was the monkey but it actually was fun even though I never did catch the ball. My yappy little brothers were there too but they didn’t want to play with any of the toys. Leo and Gino insisted on sitting on dad’s lap the whole time. They didn’t even take advantage of the yard. Something is seriously wrong with them but that’s a whole other blog! Vicky isn’t really my aunt but she has been best friends with mom for 15 years. When my sister Tara was getting married, Vicky threw her the best bridal shower ever and even invited me. I didn’t go because I wanted it to be Tara’s day and I knew she wouldn’t want to play monkey in the middle on that day. Being King of the Waves means that where ever I go, I’m the celebrity at the party. So thank You Auntie Vicky for all your love that you give me. I know you like my brothers but let’s be real here, I’m her favorite!

photo (14)photo (15)                           My mom has a friend named Rock. She met him at a cafe in Los Angeles in Venice Beach. Rock was a camera man for Hollywood when it was cool. Mom is always surrounded by dogs so he called her Doris Day, since Doris Day is a total dog person. So in turn mom started calling him Rock as in Rock Hudson. They have been friends for a long time. This week Rock was doing work for another friend making panoramic collages and he super imposed me in them. I have to admit I look pretty pawsome in the company of Marilyn and in the other picture, Laurel and Hardy. I just loved that Rock thought of me while he was working but let’s be honest here, I make these pictures rock. After all, I’m King of the Waves!

I’m sure you realize that I am not in the family picture. Tara performed in Vegas at a comedy festival. I was left behind in the room with two little dogs who happen to be my annoying brothers. I would have loved to watch Tara perform but noooooo, was left behind to babysit. The next day though mom found a wonderful breakfast place called Coffee Pub. This is me with Alexis, who was amazing and loved me. I got treated like royalty there. They were impressed that I was King of the Waves! Later, mom and dad took me to the strip in Vegas and everyone went bananas when they saw me. Everyone wanted a picture with me and I felt like I knew what Elvis must have gone through trying to simply walk down the street. After all, we are both Kings. Viva Las Vegas!!!

HAPPY VALENTINE DAY!

photo (12)photo (13)You are looking at the love of my life. Her name is Charlotte. I know what you are thinking. How anyone as lovely and beautiful as Charlotte be in love with me? I met her right away when I came to live in New Jersey with my parents. We were on the third floor and Charlotte was on the first. It was love at first sight. Charlotte was feisty and let me know right away that she wouldn’t tolerate any of my puppy behavior. She was two and I was six months old. We went for long walks together in all kinds of weather. Charlotte always used to dress up on our walks and sometimes I would get her dirty and she just would shrug it off. That is when I knew we were more than friends. Her mom and my mom would take us everyday to my dad’s cafe on the Hudson River. Dad would give us bacon or sometimes a bagel. If I thought she was getting more and start to get a little crazy, Charlotte would get right in my face. We also went to the same daycare in New Jersey. I would never let her out of my sight and made sure everybody knew she was with me. I  admit I got in to some fights and once had to get stitches. But it was all worth it for that smile she would lay on me. When I moved to San Diego to pursue my dreams of surfing I had to leave Charlotte behind. We still talk all the time and I have always been faithful even though we are oceans apart. She loves that I’m a big time celeb surfing guy out here and I always tell her I win for her. I know one day Charlotte will come out here and live in California with me. We will go on our walks, eat bacon now and then and maybe she will get on the board with me and we will ride the waves. Happy Valentine Everybody and hope you all find true love like I have in Charlotte!

photo (11)photo (10)This year I had two birthday celebrations! I turned the big 8. The picture with the king hat on was taken at the Del Mar Plaza. Joni and Dave and Robin and Dave joined us for my pizza party. I ate so much pizza, much more than the annoying little ones, Gino and Leo. Then Joni surprised me with pumpkin crumb cake! It was delish! We hung out and watched the sunset and had lots of laughs. The night was all about me, king of the waves! The other picture was taken the next day when we went to Beverly Hills to see my sister, Tara. She works at this cool French Cafe. It looks like a cottage with a big wrap around deck. A lot of celebs hang there too. When I strutted in, everyone turned to gaze in my direction. They knew even though I didn’t wear my king hat. Tara gave me some yummy french bread and mom shared her eggs with me. The staff treated me like royalty and all wished me a happy birthday. It was a pawsome birthday and I loved the gift my parents got me. It was a huge monkey pillow that I sleep with every night now. It’s good to be King!

HAPPY NEW YEAR! 2015!

photo (9)photo (8)So as you can see by my face I’m waiting for something. It’s New Year Eve and mom keeps saying the ball is going to drop soon. All I want to do is play. I don’t see a ball in her hand. I wander around and look for a ball so mom can actually throw or drop a ball so she will stop saying it. What I found was my stuffed animal, Monster, who is my security blanket. I totally forget about the ball and lay down on Monster and fall to sleep. As I start to dream about surfing, mom starts screaming, Happy New Year, and smothers me with kisses and tells me how much she loves me. I didn’t get to play ball or see a ball drop but I did get plenty of love and that’s a good thing and a great way to start the new year! Happy New Year everyone and hope its filled with lots of love and kisses! See  you at the beach!

Well as you can see by this picture I put my paw down and refused to wear a Santa outfit, but then mom put that stupid thing around my neck. So now I’m looking like a court jester! I know mom thinks I look like an elf but come on, not even close. All I know is there better be some pawsome gifts under the tree for me and of course I should get more than my annoying little brothers. Speaking of Gino, he took a chunk out of the couch today and boy was mom mad. So I’m guessing he wont be getting a single present. Leo the littlest one is always perfect but as everyone knows, I’m King of the Waves, so I’m betting on a very pawsome Christmas. To all my fans out there, a happy and healthy Christmas and New Year and check me out in 2015 on the beach!
